if that is what came out of it, replace it with the same (or the pre-mix Xerox import red formula). You guys that are early 1990’s and above, Toyota recommends their “RED” coolant. Either color is fine, just make sure to completely flush the previous color out of your cooling system before you pour in the new one. The pre-mixed GREEN or RED “import” formulas are your best bet. You’re a smart person, take care of your investment. This is when we have to leave it up to you to take care of your engine. The amount of time you run it, the mileage distances, how often it gets to proper operating temp when you drive it and the general tune of your engine are all factors.

We’d recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Just stick with a REGULAR oil change interval that makes sense and use conventional 10w/30 oil. Just look at it this way: your last engine survived 250 to 350 thousand miles using conventional dinosaur oil (and the guy that owned it before you NEVER kept a regular schedule). All we we build is 22R/22RE engines and we have always recommended conventional mineral oil for the life of a 22R/22RE. Synthetic oil is NEVER (EVER!!) recommended for break in, and we don’t actually even recommend it after break-in. DO NOT USE ANY SYNTHETIC OR A SYNTHETIC BLEND AS A BREAK IN OIL!!!! EVER!!!!!!! You kids that live in extreme (cold or hot) climates, you know what works best in your temps, so chose the weights on your past experience. You can use your “usual brand” conventional oil, but stay away from the generic no-name cheap junk. We recommend Valvoline or Castrol conventional 10w/30. Since Jim ran your engine on the dyno for break in and quality control, we recommend you drain the break in oil and change the filter (factory Toyota filter….right?) at 300 miles. Your engine was shipped to you with 4.5 quarts of high zinc break in oil in it (but please, always check the oil level and adjust as needed before you start it on your side).
